{"id":412,"date":"2009-06-09T17:42:43","date_gmt":"2009-06-09T15:42:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/self.mestrona.net\/blog\/2009\/gnome-terminal-notification-when-command-is-finished\/"},"modified":"2014-08-03T18:40:54","modified_gmt":"2014-08-03T16:40:54","slug":"gnome-terminal-notification-when-command-is-finished","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/s3lf.de\/blog\/2009\/gnome-terminal-notification-when-command-is-finished\/","title":{"rendered":"GNOME Terminal: Notification when command is finished"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is a patch to notify you as soon as a command in the gnome terminal finished working.<\/p>\n<p>It workes by monitoring the changes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>start command (find, gcc, wget and so on)<\/li>\n<li>switch to an other application (gnome terminal in to the background)<\/li>\n<li>it detects after some seconds whether there was any new output and then decides whether to monitor for activity or for inactivity<\/li>\n<li>if the command finished, the terminal window flashes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Some other <a href=\"http:\/\/bugzilla.gnome.org\/show_bug.cgi?id=132173\" target=\"_blank\">users of GNOME and me<\/a> had this idea a while ago. I also tried to develop a patch but did not have the time to finish it.
